The Society of Automotive Engineers, among others, found that debris as small as 2-10 microns can cause engine wear damage. Full-flow filters are unable to capture these small, but dangerous contaminants and still be able to pass a sufficient amount of oil for engine protection. Most over-the-counter spin-on oil filters will trap debris at 40 microns, but are much less likely to protect consistently below 25 microns.
Simply put, advanced filtration solves this dilemma by rerouting a small amount of oil through a bypass filter. The evidence is overwhelming that removal of these small particles significantly contributes to better engine performance and longevity.
