How does MagDog work?
MagDog is located ahead of the full-flow oil filter. As your engine runs, a small stream of oil is diverted into a chamber, filled with powerful Neodymium (Rare Earth) magnets fitted with concentrator caps to increase the surface attraction area.
As oil tumbles across and around the magnets, ferrous debris is captured and held in a quiet zone, where it is not subject to full-flow washout, should a surge occur. This normal condition may occur during bypass valve operation, cold starts, or sudden high RPM transients.
Although only a small stream goes into the chamber at any time, the entire volume of oil is exposed directly to the MagDog magnets many times between each tank of gas.
The filter is easy to install and does not have to be removed during full-flow oil filter changes. Maintenance consists of opening the unit and cleaning the magnets, about every 25,000 miles or sooner, if your engine is subject to severe or aggressive driving conditions.
