Used motor oil is highly toxic. Yet about every ten days, Do-It-Yourselfer oil changers will improperly dispose (dump) about 11 million gallons of used oil, equivalent to the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill. Up to 95% of all used spin-on oil filters are also dumped, causing environmental and economic damage. And the recycling or other value of the oil and filter media is forever lost.
